FAQ

The U&i LLC FAQ page provides concise, informative, and entertaining answers to many of the Frequently Asked Questions posed to the business about topics such as: permaculture, qigong, self-reflection, sliding scale fees, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ WHAT IS QIGONG?

In short, Qigong is an eastern practice of physical exercises paired with breath control similar to Tai Chi. "Qi" can be transalted as "energy" and "gong" can be translated as the "practice of." So, in essence it is the practice of energy.

If you think about the Taoist principles of yin and yang, martials arts or kung fu would be considered a yang style practice, strong and phyiscal in nature. Qigong would be considered a yin practice, still physical yet softer and more subtle in nature.

+ WHAT IS PERMACULTURE?

Permaculture is a design science. Typically, it is used to create regenerative ecosystems modeled after or inspired by natural environments. Although I can teach the "hard science" of permaculture, I do not claim to teach permaculture with my Internal Landscape Design series. Instead, I apply the theory and principles of permaculture to personal development and spiritual maturation...

I define permaculture as, "a set of ethics and principles that encourage us to think systemically about ways to create a regenerative and permanent culture; while also providing a conceptual framework to think critically, design creatively, and implement solutions authentically and realistically."

+ WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF YOUR BUSINESS?

First and foremost, to provide people with tools and templates to develop their own sense of self-efficacy. Secondly, to demonstrate the significance of making self-achievement manifest in our lives... It is my belief that every individual can design and modify their way toward a more meaningful life; however, not everyone will.

+ WHAT ARE YOUR SELF REFLECTION DOCUMENTS?

They are guided self reflection documents designed to help you think critically, constructively, and creatively about your own life. They are most effective when engaged with periodically over time. I suggest they be done as often necessary. If one marks the date of completion and keeps their self-reflection document exercises then tracking your growth and progress over time becomes a concrete process instead of a theoretical one.

+ WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS TO DO THIS WORK?

Without formal training as a lincensed counselor, philospher, theologian, etc. I recognize some may doubt my ability to do this work.

My response is simply that I am dedicated to my own process of self discovery. I've learned that self development requires a commitment to: honesty, vulnerability, change and authenticity. These are the principles that guide my work because they are the principles that guide my life. I know them inside and out.

+ HOW CAN THESE IDEAS AND CONCEPTS HELP ME PERSONALLY?

By combining the ethics and principles of permaculture with self-reflection (Internal Landscape Design) and body awareness (Qigong), the U&i philosophy is one that creates a platform for understanding.

As an educator, I believe there is a difference between knowing and understanding. Knowing is grasping a concept or idea intellectually. Understanding is the embodiment of that knowledge. As Parker Palmer states, "to educate is to guide students on an inner journey toward more truthful ways of seeing and being in the world."

+ CAN YOU EXPLAIN YOUR "FORMULA" FOR PERSONAL AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT?

The Formula is straightforward and yet comprised of endless subtleties:

  1. Physical Fitness: this develops self-awareness by grounding one’s sensations in the body thus making it easier to “know” one’s self and decipher their emotions. It also builds self esteem, confidence, and efficacy.

  2. Formless Form Qigong: this awakens in a “gentle” way those parts of ourselves we have shut off which have festered and become the internal barriers of: self doubt, insecurities, past traumas, etc.

  3. Self Reflection: honest, deliberate, deep, concentrated self reflection allows us to process through those internal obstructions in a safe way because we have the security and stability of a healthy physical and mental/emotional foundation to build upon and fall back on.

Hint: It may not be easy, but it can be simple... There is one thing that addresses and builds each of these simultaneously if done with the proper training, technique, and intention: Martial Arts.

+ HOW DO I SUSTAIN THE DRIVE AND CONVICTION I FEEL AFTER ATTENDING ONE OF YOUR WORKSHOPS OR SEMINARS?

This is the million dollar question... Developing the skills to make change possible is one thing, committing to the process required for authentic transformation is something else entirely. Ultimately, I see my role as a facilitator. I am here to help you develop those necessary skills while showing you variations of the process or formula that work for me.

I'll leave you with two lessons I've learned from my teachers:

  1. Doing the work is more important than the fear itself.
  2. You may be awake, but have you gotten out of bed?

+ HOW DO YOUR SLIDING SCALE FEES WORK?

All U&i LLC fees are offered on a sliding scale depending on the needs and variability of clientele. If you are interested in any of the products or services I offer, please reach out via my contact page with your inquiries.

+ ARE YOU A THERAPIST OR LIFE COACH?

No.

+ DO YOU DO ENERGY WORK?

No.

We can be shown the what, but we can’t be taught the how; and only when we uncover the why... can we discover who we truly are.
